I personally feel that more than SEO, Marketing & Social Media tactics there are Blogging Skills & Blogging Attitude that matters. You should constantly improve your Blog Writing skills. I had an interview with Bryan Collins – owner of BECOME A WRITER TODAY. He has thrown some great tips on how to write a Blog.
Bryan, we know that knowing English is one thing & writing it in a way that lure audience is another. Can you give list of some best free resources & tools that can help a new blogger learn how to write blog posts & improve his blogging skills ?
I’ve a list of tools I use here, many of which are free.
Every aspiring blogger should read Copyblogger.com, and BoostBlogTraffic.com. They provide most of their high-quality content for free. Boost Blog Traffic and Copyblogger are staple reading for bloggers. The blogger should also listen to podcasts like Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn. Write To Done and Make a Living Writing are perfect for writers. Firepole Marketing is a great blog for learning how to market your work.
Use the free versions of HootSuite and Buffer for social media. I also recommend MailChimp and starting an email list as soon as possible.
My tools page has lots of other free tools that bloggers can use.
Aspiring advanced bloggers should consider paying for some form of online training from one of the above. This will save you a lot of time and pain later on.
Copy writing is important for bloggers using affiliate products or selling their own. Can you throw in some tips on copywriting ?
Break up your posts will bullet points. Always include a call-to-action. Have strong sub-headings that are suitable for people who read down the page.
Spend as long on your introduction as you do on the rest of the post. And remember, your headline is the most important part of your post.
Write short and long sentences. Ask your readers questions. Make it about them and not about you. And don’t bore them with technical descriptions and personal anecdotes that they can’t learn from.
Think about re-purposing your content too. For example, you could turn a series of popular blog posts into an eBook. Or you could make a podcast out of a blog post.
I think they’re are essential, but I blog about writing. If you’re having problems writing, read WriteToDone.com and MakeALivingWriting.com.
You don’t need to be a great writer to blog, but you should know the basics.
Still stuck? Read these books: On Writing by Stephen King, Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg and the Elements of Style by Strunk and White.
Still stuck? Try podcasting or video blogging.
Is there any particular schedule that we have to follow so that the write up comes up as best ? Like writing in the morning or the evening.
I try to write in the morning as I have a family and I also find the morning is when I’m freshest. That said, I’ve also spent a lot of time writing late at night.
Do what works.
What is more essential is that you have writing routine that you stick to. You should also commit to creating every day even if it’s just several hundred words.
When you’re finished creating, make time to market your work.
